Using AI to Amplify Human Insight
Geoff Hinton once predicted that AI would replace radiologists. As a recent NYT article reported, that future hasn’t come to fruition, not because the technology failed, but because the prediction misunderstood the job of radiologists. Radiologists do more than analyse images. They advise doctors and surgeons, consult with patients, interpret medical histories, and contextualise the images within this context. Simply swapping them with AI image analysers strips the role of its depth and purpose.
This is the real danger of replacing people in current jobs with AI: we risk replacing ourselves with one-dimensional versions, losing the depth of human skill that is essential to be competitive.
At Lichen AI, we're changing how AI systems are designed, bringing together scalable approaches from human-centred interaction design, product management, and tech strategy. We help organisations uncover the tacit knowledge and cultural insight within their teams, and build AI systems that enhance rather than erase that depth.
As AI adoption accelerates, we don’t want to lose the nuance of human work. We see automation as a moment for reinvention, a chance to reimagine processes around the people who power them.
Let’s design AI that respects the complexity of human roles, rather than flattening them.
Let’s avoid the trap of “automating everything” without understanding what’s truly valuable.
Let’s figure out how to adopt AI together.
Send us a message if you're looking to build a different kind of AI, one that helps you do more of what truly matters to your organization. We’d love to collaborate.
